Atrium Anna Monthly General Newsletter/April-May 2019

Writer's picture: Anna HaevenAnna Haeven

An Open Letter from the Editor Am I Superficial? The more I get into the world of fashion and style, the more I have to say that this world is as cruel as it is beautiful. A decade ago I was not at all into fashion. It's not that I was uninterested: it was more that the superficial side of it did not attract me at that point, and without knowing any better, I almost completely turned my back to it. Luckily, it was just a temporary stage. My longing for beautiful impressions never changed, and I am happy that now I can look at this world from another point of view. You probably all know the saying that says something like: “There is no inner beauty without outer beauty.” Do we agree with that? And can someone be ugly inside and pretty outside? Certainly, a lot can be said about this subject. One thing I verified for myself, I feel much better internally if I am well taken care of externally, if my external circumstances reflect my inner vision of beauty. I remember reading about this many years ago at university. It was a novel by a Hungarian author about the life of Moses, from his birth to his last days on Earth. At one point as young discipline, Moses was complaining to his teacher, an old Egyptian priest: "Master, why do we need beautiful gardens, buildings, and garments if there are people around us who starve, have nowhere to sleep, and nothing to wear?" "Well, my Son, this is all needed to REMIND us what it is to be in heaven, so that we don't forget that there is something else in the midst of our sufferings." I leave you to contemplate this phrase, and the question: What is superficial? In the meantime, don't forget to check out our latest Spring selection of available items in the store. And yes, wearing a Chanel suit is very close to being in heaven... "Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it." —Diane von Furstenberg Anna Haeven Founder and CEO, Atrium Anna

DERÉON COAT

DERÉON

A beautiful item from Beyonce's vintage-inspired brand, Deréon. Bright colors, rich material. Eye catching retro design. 2008 model. Made in China. Size on tag: M. Shell: 53% wool, 32% polyester, 8% rayon. Lining: 100% polyester. Condition: Good. No stains or holes. Little tears that are fixable. Shows regular signs of wear. Comes with extra original buttons. Dry clean.

The line is based on 1950s-style dresses that Beyonce wore for her role as Etta James in the film Cadillac Record.

ABOUT THE BRAND:

House of Deréon was a ready-to-wear fashion line introduced by singer and actress Beyoncé and her mother/stylist Tina Lawson. The style and concept is inspired by three generations of women in their family, with the name "Deréon" paying tribute to Beyoncé's maternal grandmother, Agnèz Deréon (Mother of Tina Lawson). As of 2012 the junior line Deréon has been discontinued.

Expanding the brand, Beyoncé and her sister Solange Knowles launched the less expensive junior line Deréon. Deréon was introduced in 2006. The tag line for Deréon is "Where the sidewalk and catwalk meet". This line includes more casualwear, such as sweatpants and embroidered hooded sweatshirts. Both women are models for both clothing lines and are featured on most marketing campaigns. In 2007, members of Beyoncé's touring band, Suga Mama, appeared in print ads.

The fashion line was first introduced on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and was also featured on The Tyra Banks Show. The clothing mixes hip-hop influences, such as its use of denim, with ultrafeminine flourishes like embroidery and ruffles. In an interview with Ebony magazine Beyoncé said "I love the clothes from the '70s, my mother's clothes. I love clothes from the '40s, my grandmother's style, so elegant. We wanted to take elements from my grandmother's legacy—the beaded lace, lush colors, fine fabrics—and mix them with clothes from my mother's generation and my generation.

As for the line's latest venture, Tina Lawson designed a collection of vintage-inspired dresses that will be available at Bloomingdale's. The line is based on 1950s-style dresses that Beyonce wore for her role as Etta James in the film Cadillac Records.

What happened in the last month and what is coming? The last few months passed very quickly and I can say now, we are inevitable going into warmer days. We created three Lookbooks for you to make it easier to see and choose from what we have in the store or to give you an idea what we are doing and what kind of things you can expect from us.

In February Gabriel, my friend was visiting from London. That time it was still a bit chilly outside and we took all the photos inside, mixing some warmer pieces with more cooler items.

You can see the Lookbook here: Gabriel's Debut

GABRIEL'S DEBUT

In March, as soon as the first rays of the Sun came out, I went outside and asked a photographer friend to take some pictures of me while I was playing around with pieces from the store. This album is really for those who like economical shopping but don't want to give up luxury. The pieces are more basic elements from a fashion-conscious wardrobe but at the same time, it's a mix and match. You know, like when you open the fridge and say, let's put something nice together of what we have at home.

You can see the entire Lookbook here: Spring Collection - Mix & Match

MIX & MATCH

And finally, in April, officially ready for warmer days, I took out the best of the best from the shop and created a photo-series. Almost everything what you see on these pictures is available in the store.

Atrium Anna's Services and Activities

- Authentication and Estimation Services

I see many people buying fakes and struggling with bad after taste. Therefore, I decided to start offering authenticating services to those who wish to purchase something online but not sure whether the product is authentic or counterfeit. You know my belief about fakes; they are worse than low quality "originals" in my eyes. Also, many people don't know how much to ask for their no longer needed designer garments. So, come by, or send an email at anna@atriumanna.com, and let's begin the process.

I have mentioned these before but I will include it again just in case some of you did not know about it. The group is open for everyone at this point but I may change it later for a closed group and who knows, I may start offering some benefits or collaboration opportunities for members. Later, I would like to gather some thoughts from these intentional chats and put them together in a post, in a blog post, and create interviews with influental people like Ria Schulten (see my blog post at atriumanna.com/blog).

Keywords: style, beauty, vintage, luxury, shopping, trends, fashion, quality. Just in case you did not know, this place was created to support conversation between members, to share ideas and tips with each other. You can talk about virtually anything, what you were wearing last week, who is your favorite designer or what brands do you like to wear, why do you like vintage, or simply what happened with you yesterday. We take almost any subjects. The goal is to gather like-minded people and have a virtual tea session!  Join the conversation here: Facebook discussion group

- Direct purchase from Facebook and Instagram Shops

Some of you are already members or followers of our Facebook or Instagram sites. I am very excited about this new addition and I really think that this will bring Atrium Anna to a completely new level. It means that you can simply tap on our images to be led to our website directly where you can purchase the item. What does it mean exactly? Yes, that is correct! We have been granted permission from Instagram (and Facebook) to sell our items directly on their platforms! This was a huge step as this feature is still quite new for Instagram users and there are only a few, bigger companies who were able to introduce this to their followers and visitors.

- A Garage Boutique and Selling at the Local Markets

Atrium Anna presently exists only online. However, last year we took out our items to the local bazaar and the feedbacks were very encouraging. Many people were asking us to start selling in-person as well online and they want to visit to see our products. During the Summer Season, Atrium Anna's Garage Boutique will be open at 13811 Concord Trail, in Oregon House, California. At this point, however, we still are focusing on online sales but will visit local bazaars or markets if there will be an opportunity. I already started to explore the local markets, and on June 2nd I will be selling my merchandise in Grass Valley at the Sweet Pickins outdoor vintage market (see more details below at the events section). If you live in Oregon House, you know that once a month you can also see me at the Apollo Grand Bazaar as well.
